However, the university is subject to privacy laws that may require protection of personal health and financial information, institutional and other information. Compliance with privacy laws and regulations is often complex. If an individual from a governmental regulatory agency (including DEQ, OSHA, ICE, etc.) or law enforcement (such as local or state police) calls, visits, or sends a letter, please immediately contact the Office of the General Counsel at (504) 865-5783.

Tulane University personnel should not release University documents and records, formally or informally, without contacting the Office of the General Counsel for further guidance on next steps. When contacted by governmental agencies, a government official or law enforcement officer, Tulane University personnel should politely inform the government official or law enforcement officer that the University will cooperate but only in consultation with the Office of the General Counsel. Tulane personnel should be respectful and provide the government official or law enforcement officer with the contact information for the Office of the General Counsel (504-865-5783). Tulane University personnel should politely ask government officials or law enforcement officer seeking to access to university spaces for enforcement purposes to wait in a comfortable public or secure location for a representative from the Office of the General Counsel. Without a warrant, government officials should not conduct searches or inspections of University buildings, or otherwise make entry into non-public-access areas of university property for enforcement actions.
