Notarial services are available to faculty, staff and students BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Requirements/Restrictions:

  • Tulane ID and valid Driver’s License
  • The person(s) signing the document must be physically present and sign the document in the notary's presence.
  • All supporting documents must be presented at time of service – No Exceptions.
  • Certified true copies will not be provided without the original.
  • Diplomas and transcripts cannot be certified as true copies.
  • Original documentation required for verification of identification (Birth Certificate or US Passport)
  • A personal ink pen
  • A face mask
  • Sanitize hands upon entering office
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance

Frequently Asked Questions about the Tulane Notary Public Service provided by the Office of the General Counsel

What is the notary fee?

The service is free to current students, faculty and staff. We do not notarize for relatives, friends or the public.

I need my Tulane diploma or transcript notarized.

The diploma or transcript must originate from the registrar's office. The notary will not notarize a diploma or transcript that you present for notarization. The notary will not notarize another University's diploma or transcript.

I need a birth certificate, marriage license or passport certified.

These are official documents and you will need to obtain certified copies from the issuing governmental authority.

I have mortgage or refinancing documents that need to be notarized.

The notary will not notarize mortgage or refinancing documents. According to state law, the notary is responsible for filing these documents and the Tulane notary does not provide this service. The notary will not notarize a "closing package" drafted by mortgage and finance companies.

What documents will the notary not notarize?
  • Acts of sales
  • Mortgages
  • Wills
  • Trusts
  • Real estate closing packages
  • Copies of official documents
  • Vehicle titles
  • Promissory notes
  • Other acts that require recordation or administration

The notary will not complete I-9 or other forms. The notary retains the right to refuse to notarize any document.

I need a document prepared to be notarized.

The notary does not draft documents or provide documents to be notarized.

In general, the notary is available for simple notarization as a service to the university community.
